GUIDELINES

Author's/PRESENTER'S Responsibilities:

 

PRESENTATIONS ONLY NEED BE SUBMITTED FOR PACWEST 2020

 

1.

PRESENTATION SUBMISSION DEADLINE:    MAY 15th

Presentations should be in PowerPoint only and to be e-mailed to myself and Meeting Operations chair, Andrew Madsen by May 15th  - no more than 20 slides recommended – 1 per minute.

2.

SPEAKERS’ BREAKFAST:

THURSDAY MAY 28TH

The presenter only (not all authors) and Session Chairs are requested to attend a Presenters’ Breakfast at 7:30 am on Thursday, May 28th in Pyramid AB meeting rooms on the lower level.  The Session Chairs and Speakers will have this opportunity to briefly get to know one another.  It is important to attend as last minute details will also be reviewed.  

3.

SPEAKER  INTRODUCTORY BIOGRAPHY:

To aid the Session Chairs in their introduction of the speakers, please prepare a brief career biography of yourself.  This should be included in or attached to the Author Information Sheet and received by May 15th

4.

SPEAKER/AUTHOR REGISTRATION:

Please note that presenters and co-authors are required to register for the conference.  Registration information is available on the website.

5.

PRESENTATION/JUDGING:

All the presentations and their contents will be judged, with prizes awarded in a number of different categories.  Please note that the time limit for presentations is 20 minutes.  In addition, each speaker is allowed 5 minutes for questions and answers.

6.

AWARDS BANQUET

FRIDAY JUNE 7th

Presenters (or appointed designate) are requested to attend the Conference Awards Banquet on Friday evening when the paper awards are announced.

7.

GUIDELINES and DISTRIBUTION  RIGHTS

Publication/Distribution rights are outlined on the attached Author Information Sheet.

MANUSCRIPTS ARE NOT REQUIRED FOR PACWEST 2020

Authors are responsible for the originality of the work, permission to publish, permission to reproduce any cited figures, and proofreading.

Manuscript Preparation:

Format
  • A software version of the manuscript must be provided
  • Microsoft Word must be used
  • Please use an Arial or New Times Roman ten (10) point font
  • All manuscripts are requested to be on 8 ½" x 11" paper, two columns and have borders (margins) ½" top, bottom, left and right
  • Maximum of 12 pages
  • Figures and pictures should be included in the same file
Title
The title should be brief but accurately descriptive of the contents. Font Size maximum is 14
Introduction
The introduction should summarize previous knowledge and state the aim of the work
Body of the paper
The structure of the body of the paper may vary according to the subject matter and approach
Conclusions
The conclusions of the work should be clearly stated in a separate section
Headings & Subheadings
Subheadings may be used to create natural breaks in the text, but should not be overdone. Headings should not be numbered.
References
References should be in the public domain and should not include unpublished work, private communications or papers not yet accepted for publication. The style to be used is exemplified by the following:
  • For Journals: DE GRÂCE, J. H., "The Print-Through Property of Newsprint", J. Pulp Paper Sci. 19 (5):J208-213 (1993)
  • For Books: KREITH, F. and BLACK, W.Z., "Basic Heat Transfer", 1st. Ed., Harper and Row, New York (1980)
  • For Patents: VIPER, V.S., MacMillan Bloedel ltd., (Canada), "Secondary Treatment of an Integrated paper Mill effluent", U.S. Patent 5143619 (Issued Sept. 1, 1992)
References should be indicated in the text by numbers in square brackets (or parentheses if that is not possible) and the order of the numbers must be the order in which they appear in the text. The reference list must be in numerical order
Equations
All equations that have their own line should be numbered
Units
The SI (metric) system of units must be used, but other units may be included in the brackets
Bleaching Nomenclature
Bleaching nomenclature should follow the rules set out in either TAPPI TIS 0606-21 or the PAPTAC “Glossary of Bleaching Terms”
Figures
All figures must be numbered consecutively and referred to in the text. Captions should be listed at the end of the paper. Line drawings should be prepared according to the highest standards of clarity
Photographs
Photographs should be used only when line diagrams cannot communicate the information
Appendices
Appendices are acceptable for the purpose of communicating information that would otherwise impede the flow of the paper
